Air Tanzania has been shopping at Bombardier. The African airline has ordered 3 Bombardier aircraft.
Air Tanzania chooses CSeries
Air Tanzania currently operates a fleet of 4 aircraft including the Bombardier Q400, Q300 and a Bombardier CRJ-100ER leased from Cemair.
The airline has ordered 2 CS300 aircraft, becoming the first customer for the CSeries in Africa, and 1 Bombardier Q400.
The airline will be leasing the aircraft from Bombardier, but at list prices the deal is valued at $200 million.
Jean-Paul Boutibou, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft vice president of sales for Africa and the Middle East said the following about the order:
“The CS300 aircraft will allow Air Tanzania to expand both its domestic and regional markets, and it has the range to open new international destinations such as the Middle East and India”
The deal pushes Bombardier’s order book for the CSeries to 360 units of which 4 units have already been delivered. In 2016 the company expects to ship another 3 units followed by 35 in 2017.
