Nigerian Arik Air has finally converted its order for the Boeing 747-8I. The airline was the only African customer for Boeing’s biggest jet, but it never seemed to be that there was any chance of the airline taking delivery of the jumbo jet.
Arik Air had previously ordered 2 Boeing 747-8I jets with Boeing in July 2011, but the jets were never likely to be delivered to Boeing as AeroAnalysis pointed out in an article published on Seeking Alpha.
The company has now converted its existing order for the Boeing 747-8I to an order for 2 Boeing 787-9 with a catalog value of $529 million. The order comes on top of the 7 orders for Dreamliners of the same type it already has with Boeing.
Whether these newly ordered aircraft will be delivered soon is unknown and maybe even unlikely as a Arik Air spokesperson said deliveries were “not imminent”.
