Boeing And SpiceJet Announce Order

Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet have finalized an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and additional purchase rights.

SpiceJet order important for Boeing

Boeing and Airbus both have been in the race for a SpiceJet order for quite some time now. Rumors of a mega order date all the way back to 2015. The airline already had 42 aircraft on order with Boeing. Another 13 had previously been attributed to an unidentified customer.

In the final days of 2016, the low-cost carrier and The Boeing Company reached an agreement for the purchase of 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Additionally the Indian carrier has acquired purchase rights for another 50 jets. The firm part of the aircraft order is worth $11B at list prices, while Boeing expects to sell and deliver $22.5B worth of aircraft in the coming years to Spicejet.

In recent years Boeing saw how Airbus accumulated big orders from IndiGo and GoAir. The order is important for Boeing as it increases it exposure to the highest growth market for aircraft and increases the chances of receiving follow up orders.
