According to research carried out by the Economic Research Foundation, Schiphol Airport is the second biggest aviation hub measured by number of connections. Research was commissioned by the Airport Council International (ACI).
Schiphol has a total of 4633 direct weekly connections and 52,000 total connections, the second biggest number after Frankfurt am Main. The Amsterdam based airport still is ahead of Paris Charles de Gaulle, the hub of its airline group partner Air France.
Researches concluded that European airports have better connections with other parts of the world
In terms of passengers the Dutch mainport has left even Frankfurt am Main behind and is one of the fastest growing airports in Western Europe. Year-to-date Schiphol processed 29.7 millions passengers, almost 10% more than a year ago.
As KLM is experiencing fierce competition from low cost carriers and the Gulf carriers growth is primarily realized by LCCs expanding their network from Amsterdam. Additionally, Jet Airways and Aeromexico added Amsterdam to their network.
