Six months into 2016, Schiphol can be marked as the fastest grower compared to its European peers: Londen Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt.
Schiphol fastest grower
In June the airport processed 5.74 million passengers, up 7.9% from a year earlier. In the first six months of 2016 Schiphol processed 29.7 million passengers compared to 27 million a year earlier, a 9.9% increase.
The growth is a whole lot stronger than the growth figures realized by peers. London Heathrow grew by 0.6%, Paris Charles de Gaulle was flat and Frankfurt shrunk by 0.9%.
Aircraft movements grew by 5.9%. In Europe KLM and low-cost carriers easyJet and Vueling rapidly expanded their flight offering from Schiphol. International aircraft movements grew by 2.9%. This growth is realized by airlines adding the Dutch mainport to their network.
For 2016, the year of the airport’s centennial, it expects to process 63 million passenger.
Freight processed climbed 1.6%. KLM Cargo does merely benefit from this since the cargo carrier has been reducing its cargo fleet.
